Nov 2011 Newsletter

It’s hard to believe that yet another year is coming to an end, but even with a back drop of financial difficulties in national economies around the world and the gloom seen on the TV each night, the Martial Arts industry has shown an unparalleled resilience. I do believe that the efforts of school owners to rise to the challenges presented by the current economic climate have paid off in 2011and will continue to do so in the coming year.

It is not in the nature of school owners in this industry to be complacent, and we should not. But the facts are that up to September of 2011 we saw a significant increase in customers’ annualised billing and we estimate that this growth will be around 8% on a like for like basis by the end of the year. This is an astonishing achievement for this industry and it continues to give us all confidence for the future prosperity of Martial Arts schools.

At NEST we continue to look for the best ways to assist you to market your business and in the past year we have provided marketing initiatives through a number of national brands. Through this work, it is now becoming clear that many of those brand holders who would have been reluctant to see Martial Arts as a mainstream player in the world of sport and education are beginning to change their view. Our plan for next year will be to continue to promote links with national organisations that will provide a platform to help you to acquire more students for your business – a number of these are in the pipeline and we will provide details as soon as we can.

In the last Newsletter I referred to the changeover to our V3 school management system and this is now live on all customer accounts. This is the platform that we will continue to build on during the coming year and we have extensive plans for enhancement to the marketing tools, reporting and attendance systems as well as a completely new till and stock control development.

Our primary focus in the coming year, in addition to the collection of student fees, will be continuing our efforts to provide processes and systems which will help you to get and keep students; and within the systems developments mentioned above you will see more advances in attendance methods including an iPhone/iPad App and a new bar coding system as well as a completely new marketing management system.

This is an industry with great potential for successful schools and fantastic contributions to local communities, and we will continue to invest in developments to help you.

The next year will continue to see financial issues in all economies around the world and the UK will definitely not be exempt from this. Yet if we continue to focus our efforts on the benefits that Martial Arts can bring to students and have a consistent approach to marketing and customer service, every school can grow and succeed in 2012.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year
Very best wishes

Benefits for NEST clients advertising in Yellow Pages

The Yellow Pages Corporate Advertising Scheme (CAS) is now in its fifth year and many NEST clients have benefitted from increased exposure in the directory as a result of this scheme.
Research demonstrates that advertising under the banner of a respected trade organisation like NEST is an advantage when it comes to reassuring potential customers.

About Yellow Pages CAS
CAS adverts are high impact display adverts with a header section containing the logo and details of NEST. They contain the line entry listings of participating NEST clients who choose to take part in the scheme.
CAS listings have the added advantage of enabling schools to include additional information about their business such as a website address or martial art style and are in addition to your school’s standard club listing.

Benefits of taking part
The Yellow Pages CAS helps schools benefit from a high impact display advertisement at the cost of a line entry. It also offers schools the opportunity to take advantage of their membership with NEST and projects your organisation as trustworthy and credible.

Reasons why schools may consider a CAS advert
·         Around 8 in 10 Yellow Pages directory users agree that CAS advertisers would be professional, reputable and qualified*
·         8 in 10 Yellow Pages directory users consider that CAS adverts help them to locate an accredited supplier*
·         83% of Yellow Pages directory users consider that CAS adverts help them to locate a supplier that they have not used before*

If you would like to understand if advertising with Yell could benefit your business, speak to one of NEST’s Independent Marketing Consultants on 0115 945 5030.
If you would like to book a CAS advertisement, contact Yell direct on 0808 100 7890 today quoting ‘Corporate Advertising Scheme’.

About Paul Pretty

I first started training in Martial Arts in 1983, aged 10, at the local Aikido group.  After my first lesson I was hooked!  I became obsessed by the martial arts and loved everything about it.  I subscribed to every magazine, bought “International Karate” for my commodore 64 and sought out every book I could get my hands on.

I joined the local Karate class soon after, which was part of Kanazawas Shotokan Karate International group and trained 7 days a week in one system or another.  As part of the Kanazawas system we trained Tai Chi every Sunday morning. Unfortunately the Aikido class folded after around 5 years of training, but this gave me the time to train in other styles and systems wherever I could and of course focus on Karate.

At 16 I achieved my 1st Dan.  I had competed and won a number of regional and national championships in Kata and was selected by Sensei Asano to represent England as a Kata competitor at the European Championships.  I was training intensely when all of my friends were down the pub on a Friday night. I’d also get up early on a Sunday morning to go to classes.
I also taught my first children’s class at age 16 when my instructor couldn’t make it and was soon teaching all of his children’s classes. I thought that this would be great  to do as a living, but in the late 1980s there was no such thing as a serious full time martial arts instructor, at least as far as I knew.

At 18, I opened my first classes in west London as an addition to those offered by our club already, and I soon found that these were very popular with both new and existing students.  Unfortunately I moved to East London to go to University, but I kept the West London classes going as I didn’t want to let the students down.

I went on to take my 2nd Dan under Kanazawa and then my 3rd and 4th Dan under Steve Rowe of Shikon.  I have been taking regular private lessons with Steve for many years now and under him have learnt the Yang Cheng Fu Tai Chi and Kung Fu system which I teach alongside Karate.  My Karate has also been heavily influenced by the Shikon system, although it is still Shotokan in essence.

As the years passed the student numbers gradually grew and the other instructors in our group offered me their club nights to teach as they had other priorities.  I was working a full time day job and teaching and training a full time martial arts schedule.  I would leave the house at 7am to go to work, get in at 11pm and then do the same the next day.  Weekends were filled with courses or competitions.

I made a decision – to do this full time and make a living out of it. Then married with a young child to look after, a good job in the City and a mortgage to match, I couldn’t just quit the day job. One thing that Martial Arts have taught me though is that perseverance, dedication and hard work pays off. Most things that really matter in life are hard earned.

For a couple of years, with guidance from NEST, I built my school until I had sufficient numbers to make the jump.  Then, aged 30, I did it and have never looked back!   People sometimes look at me now, doing what I love as a job, earning enough to support a family (now with 3 boys!) and they say “You’re so lucky!”    As I remember all of those hours training and time invested in building a business, I usually just smile.

About Tsunami Martial Arts

My school now runs in 5 locations teaching over 500 students (aged from 4 to 64 years) each week.

Within my school we have Little Ninjas classes for 4 – 6 year olds, Karate Kids for 7 + ,  Adult Karate and Self Defence,  Tai Chi for Health, Tai Chi Kung Fu, Kung Fu Weapons, Grappling classes, leadership classes for children and Instructor training courses.  I also teach corporate classes and do a regular fortnightly session at the Dominion Theatre in London.

Underpinning the foundation of my school is integrity.  Not just as a word to mention in the leadership course, but as a genuine principle to the school.  We work to the idea of “Kaizen,” or continual improvement, for every aspect of the school from students to instructors to business practice.

With this in mind we have grown because we have good retention.  We maintain standards and don’t just give away grades and our students know this.  They have to earn their grades, learn about perseverance and develop themselves.  As Jim Rohn said “Do not wish it was easier, wish you were better.”

All instructors, including myself, must be continually learning and challenging themselves.

The school is a friendly place that builds people up to challenge themselves, especially children, and doesn’t just throw them in the deep end from day one.  Martial Arts really should be, in my opinion, about building the characters of those taking part.  For me personally it is through the training in the arts that I am both who I am and where I am today and after nearly 30 years, I’ve only just started.

WHY NEST?

When I first decided to make my martial arts school a successful one, I soon realized it’s not just about being good at a martial art and able to teach classes.  I knew plenty of very good martial arts coaches but their schools were not run in a very successful way.  There was something missing and I looked at the successful ones I did know for the answer.

There is far more to running a successful Martial Arts business than most people appreciate and to have the guidance, industry knowledge and experience is invaluable, especially when starting out.  That’s why I chose NEST initially.  I looked at numerous other billing companies, but intuitively I felt that NEST could be trusted and based their own business on values of integrity.  They had a good understanding of the various business models that could be used and were able to advise and offer guidance on every aspect of the business.  They were clearly not just “another billing company.”

Gerard was always available for my questions and willing to give his time generously.  With their company structure it is in NESTs interest to help me succeed and Gerard and the team were very keen to do so. They had created a Win/Win relationship.

After 10 years NEST continue to present a very professional image for my school and offer guidance on any issues that have arisen in our school. The billing side of a business is always a headache for me – NEST handles this very well and I certainly wouldn’t want to be doing it!

The monthly direct debit is taken care of and the student bases their commitment to the school upon their perception of what we actually do.

As my school grew, my accountant at the time recommended I set up as a Limited Company.  This had VAT issues and NEST was very quick to inform me of the consequences of doing this and arranged for me to meet with Carl from Dennis and Turnbull, who I now use as my own accountants. NEST has a great network of contacts and knows the right people to contact for this industry.

NEST has also helped with the set-up of my new schools, helping me with demographic data to best choose where to open my Norfolk schools.

I have also worked closely with NEST on building the school system, and am looking forward to implementing this across my schools in the near future.  I know that NEST will do their utmost to make this work for me and all their customers.

Andrew’s Sporting Chance pays off

Andrew Hicks of Hicks Karate School of Excellence in Peterborough was the lucky winner of this summer’s ASDA Sporting Chance Redemption Prize Draw, courtesy of Savvy Marketing.
The draw encouraged NEST clients to tell us how well their ASDA store ‘Meet and Greet’ sessions worked for their business during the school summer holidays and Savvy were delighted to report that they received their best response on redemption rates to date, as a direct result of the draw taking place.
Andrew’s school now faces the difficult decision of how to spend the £500 winnings on equipment for their club!

Can You Afford to Ignore Social Media?

A couple of years ago, the jury was out when considering whether the use of social media delivered commercial benefits for martial arts academies in the UK.

Whilst growing in popularity, the use of social networking sites such as Facebook were historically seen as personal rather than business communication channels. However, as social media has evolved and matured, martial arts schools can no longer ignore the vital role it can play in helping them to recruit and retain students.

A recent social media study conducted by socialmediaexaminer.com* found that ‘90% of marketers indicated that social media is important for their business’. The survey, which was conducted with over 3300 marketers was developed ‘with the goal of understanding how marketers are using social media to grow and promote their businesses.’

The study also found that businesses are spending an increasing amount of time on social networking with ‘58% of businesses using social media for 6 hours or more each week’.

Video marketing is on the rise with 3 out of 4 marketers planning on increasing their use of Youtube and video marketing making it the top area marketers will invest in this year.

The number one advantage of social media marketing is generating more business exposure but there are also online benefits too, including increased traffic to your website and improved search rankings.

For martial arts academies within the NEST network, Facebook, Youtube and blogs remain the most popular networks because of the media’s ability to deliver martial arts techniques to new and existing students is a stimulating and engaging way.

NEST clients can obtain professional guidance about how to improve their school’s social networking activity. If you would like to understand more about how you can develop a social media strategy or if you want to start using social media for the first time, speak to a NEST Marketing Consultant on 0115 945 5030.

About Lee Sansum

Who would have thought that me, a shy, bullied young boy from a mill town in Lancashire, would join the Army and become a European Martial Arts sporting champion, as well as acting as a bodyguard to probably the most controversial businessman in the country and also one of the most famous women in the world, the Princess of Wales?
Yet all of these things and much more happened to me, thanks to Martial Arts.

My journey started at the age of 15 when I discovered Wado Ryu Karate and the art of fighting and by 17 I was a combat veteran on the football terraces, in bars and on the National Karate Tournament circuit.  It had happened - I was now a fighter never to be bullied again in my life.

Karate took over and I quickly learnt to keep the fighting inside the Dojo and by the time I went to work in South Africa, Martial Arts was my obsession. I studied TKD in Johannesburg and was personally taught by the National Coach, absorbing the kicks and new Kata’s like a sponge.

The British Army came next, at a time when it was a bully’s playground where the weak were punished, but it was not going to happen to me again.

My physical prowess, aggression and fighting skills kept me safe. I trained in all kinds of styles and systems in Europe and the Far East, fought some of the toughest guys and studied Close Quarter Battle with the Military Elite.

Ten years of service taught me great resilience and I quickly figured out that the body is strong, yet the mind is weak. This thought alone has stood me in good stead over many years, over many challenges in difficult situations, on the battlefield and also in business.
I needed every ounce of this mindset after spending three months in an Intensive Care Unit at a British Military Hospital and being told, “Operational Tour? Son you’re not going to be able to walk again properly.”

The private security contractor scene came next and at least I could train at one location. Aged 35, I represented a National Association at the EKGB Nationals and was British Kumite Champion.

Now regarded as a good Martial Artist and experienced fighter and also an accomplished CQB instructor in the Military and Specialist Security arena, I had the best of both worlds.

Settling in Scotland in 1999 focused me on teaching my Sport at the highest level possible and I have produced National, European and World Champions in the main associations, WUMA, WKA WAKO, WOAMA and IAKSA.
I have many incredible memories, but my most dear and precious one came when aged 46 I fought on the next area to my son Damon at the WUMA European Championships.  We both won Gold medals – in the over 90kgs section for me and over 85kgs for my boy - now that’s family Martial Arts.

My recent trip to the WAKO Worlds in Austria and being part of the Team at the age of 48 was another awesome, stand-out experience. Winning a silver medal without having a heart attack was good too!!!

About Sansum Black Belt Academy (SBBA)

I started my first Academy in a small Highland town called Forres (population around 7000), with classes held in the back of a pub nightclub. Brushing glass off the floor before classes was mandatory but it was free.

My wife, Kate was a fitness professional with a strong background in business so she started to teach me about accounts, tax, and marketing and also how to be nice to people! I had just come from the Security and Military world and could be a little robust in my dealings with certain situations. Kate taught me ‘the customer is always right’.

Our son Damon has been with us on the whole journey and has helped out from day one through the good times and the bad. He is now a World Champion and in number one position for the 2012 Games with the WTF Olympic Team up in Manchester.

A year after starting up, I had over 100 students paying and training and then opened a full time location in the next town (population 28,000). I started with 28 students and grew that Academy to over 400 paying and training students.

Kate and I are a terrific mix  - we could naturally sell our services, are quite outgoing so asking for referrals was second nature, and we are also great motivators so everything was right for the Martial Arts business.

I had little distraction on the mats trying to implement new things to teach (unlike many Instructors who get side-tracked with the latest new systems for success) as I had and still have a simple, clearly defined mission...to train World Class Points Fighters.

Our marketing was mainly from a specific referral system Kate and I designed, school visits and the odd newspaper advertisement. We had free editorial nearly every week and courted the local press or anyone who could pass on the good news about SBBA.

My ambition was to grow the Academy and to take a more managerial role and to do this I needed to trust my staff and the Instructors close to me which was a challenging journey in itself.

Marketing strategies had to change and be more systems driven and I also had to accept that once Kate and I started to manage more we would not attain the same student count in the main centres.

I now have a great Team of motivated Instructors teaching in 12 locations and a crop of young talented fighters in my fully sponsored World Championship Programme.

Why NEST?

I started using billing companies in 1999 initially with EFC for Martial Arts then UP for Fitness Kick Boxing. I chose this method of fee collection for two reasons:- it had become too big a task to administer the Direct Debits as my schools grew; and all the successful schools in the USA used billing companies and I’m a big fan of copying proven success.

The service from these two operations was ok, however they were often trying to sell me something and lacked a little bit of customer care - they didn’t really seem to have my business interests at heart.

At this time I had no previous experience in business and soon figured out the Martial Arts was as competitive as any other business and not always the open and honest industry I thought it might be.

I was then introduced to NEST by a friend and although initially quite sceptical, I started to use their services and have never looked back.

Gerard Turvey is the most professional businessman I have ever met. His integrity, honesty and transparency is reflected in the quality of the staff at the NEST Office and exceptional customer care given by the team.  I just wish I lived closer to Nottingham so I could pop into see everyone more often!

Over the years the Turvey family have become very good friends.  We have shared quite a few journeys together and I have seen NEST grow into the company you see today.

NEST have been instrumental in implementing administration systems into my operation and helping out with a huge range of issues from disgruntled parents to legal issues.

I am looking forward to working with the new software and phone apps which will make it even easier for me to keep an eye on the performance of my Group at a glance.

Having the KPI,s at my fingertips helps me spot any danger signs with a particular Academy but also tells me when an Instructor is doing well, so I can share good practice with the whole group.

"Ask the Expert": The Best Class Times for Kids

“I’ve recently had great success with recruiting new students using a variety of different marketing channels. However, I’ve found that many of my younger students have been dropping out of classes within the first three months of training.

Is there any evidence to suggest that my class timetable may be the issue with retaining students?”Greg Allison,  BMMA Portsmouth
Chantelle Bell, Marketing Consultant for NEST says:
“Classes for children should first and foremost be convenient for parents and any classes scheduled for after 6pm in the evening typically see much lower attendance rates than those straight after school.

In general, the younger the child, the earlier your class times should be. Martial Arts Schools teaching pre-school aged children for example should schedule classes for during school hours although these classes should typically finish no later than 3pm in order to allow time for parents to ‘do the school run’ to collect older siblings.

Martial Arts Classes on school premises are extremely popular as these enable working parents to in effect extend their working day, whether or not they form part of an official After School Club.

The best times to run classes for primary school aged children are between 4pm and 6pm. Bear in mind that most parents have more than one child’s extra-curricular activities to co-ordinate so convenience and accessibility are fundamentally the biggest considerations for anyone initially choosing a martial arts school.

If a parent has to co-ordinate ‘Child A’ to go swimming , ‘Child B’ to go to football and then ‘Child C’ to attend a martial arts class then all of these activities need to be roughly in the same area at a similar time of day in order for parents to be able to ferry their children to and from training venues.

Most parents want to have finished all extra-curricular activities by no later than 6pm in order to have tea, complete homework and start the nightly bedtime routine and this is particularly important for younger children where they are often tired after a day at school.

If you have concerns that your current class timetable may be at odds with parents’ needs, consider:

§  Asking parents how convenient they find your classes. Do they find the class times easy to fit around their work and other childrens’ activities and do they find it easy to park when they drop their children off?

§  Conducting a survey to research new class times. Whilst you won’t be able to please everybody all of the time, you’ll get a rough idea about whether particular class times are more popular than others.

Remember – black belts are your loyalists and as such, they will come to your club at any time of day. Children however will not, as they are dependent on their parents.
If you’d like to find out more about how to manage your class timetable, you can speak to a NEST Marketing Consultant direct. Simply contact NEST on 0115 9455030 to arrange a telephone consultation.

September Update

Hi everyone, I am delighted to be writing this foreword at what has always been the beginning of the best three months of the Martial Arts calendar for taking on new students. At NEST we have also taken on more new clients than ever and have also seen a record number of new locations opened by existing clients.

We are also seeing a significant increase in the use of our school management system (V3) as we quickly approach the changeover from Version 2 for all remaining schools that are not yet there. The communication functions of the system coupled with the ease of taking attendance in a number of ways, including using a mobile phone, will continue to support schools efforts to make real improvements in retention rates as well as making the task of managing the business more effective. This is really important as we go into this part of the year when school owners can take advantage of a rising market as children have returned to school and parents look to enrol them into new extra curricular activities; but remember that adults too are looking for new activities post summer holidays and should also not be forgotten.

Throughout the summer months we have seen schools continuing to make progress in increasing the volume of business they achieve. Some schools have increased business by double digit percentages this year with the best performances showing monthly increases of up to £5K. In addition to these successes, we have also seen student retention rates at higher than anticipated levels, which is great and this continues to give us confidence in the industry for growth potential for every school.

The three months of September, October and November always stand out as the biggest opportunity every year for our industry, but we have to work at it to achieve our goals. While I am sure that you have been taking notice of our marketing prompts in preparation for this time please also remember that those with consistent success also show a consistent approach to their marketing activity. That means formulating and executing a well prepared plan to implement marketing actions which support your goals for getting new students and retaining the ones that you have. It is clear, from our analysis of schools, that success will only come where there is a consistent focus on the business of getting and retaining students throughout every single month.

Martial Arts has given us the tools to enable us to “dig deep”, focus and demonstrate commitment to success. Use these skills in your business now and irrespective of the economic climate as reported on the news, you will end the year with the success you planned and truly deserve.

I wish everyone all the very best for success in this last part of the year. If you need any help or guidance please do not hesitate to call us.

Very best wishes

Thoughts on The Martial Arts Show Live May 2011 at the NEC

We had a great time at the Martial Arts show in May; it was a great success with a huge turn out, so thanks to all who help make it such a brilliant day! We thoroughly enjoyed all the different zones and the performances of various martial arts styles, some using dangerous traditional weapons. It was great to see so much passion for this sport. There was never a dull moment, with some record breaking from Manjit Singh who lifted a 10kg weight with his eye socket! There were four more world record attempts which were each as exciting to watch as each other. We were all very impressed, especially as the previous record was 6kg. Another thing which was so good about the show was that there was something for everyone, lots of different martial arts, from tatami to lei tai. There was also a fashion show and an appearance from Gok Wan which the women on the team were excited about. There was also many free lessons going on so everyone could have a go and possibly find a new hobby. We are completely behind the aim of the event which was to put martial arts back on the map! Not only could you get autographs from legends such as Bill Wallace and Cynthia Rothrock but you could train with them too! Incredible. This event had quite a high profile as both the BBC and Channel 4 were there. Meeting all our clients and potential clients and having a drink with them all was of course the best part for us as that is why we were there.

Best wishes, NEST

Introducing Terry & The Wing Chun Academy

I have been involved in the Martial arts for over 32 years from way back when I first started training in Karate.

I have been training in Wing Chun Kung Fu now for almost 30 years since the day I walked in to an old dusty church hall in Barking in Essex and began training and have never looked back since then. Like most people of my generation I was hooked by the Bruce Lee films and the Kung Fu series that was on TV when I was a kid and couldn’t wait to have a go myself.

During my years of training I have also trained in other martial arts and I hold a Black Belt in Japanese Ju Jitsu which I learned from a fantastic Instructor. I have also trained in Thai Boxing and in Kali.

However my first and real passion remains Wing Chun Kung Fu which I teach throughout the Essex area in various schools.

Having trained for many years and encouraged by my own Sifu I began teaching to pass on what I have learned to my own students. I did this as I believe that the benefits of the martial arts are so far reaching and we can positively impact on people’s lives with martial arts.

I have been fortunate enough to have been taught by and trained with some great Wing Chun instructors and have travelled the world meeting and training with some great Masters to improve my knowledge.

I now try to pass this knowledge onto my students to help them.

In my schools we teach all ages, we have a very successful Little Dragons class for the youngest children and our very popular Kids Kung Fu classes for older children along with these we have our great adult classes that have been running since before I joined NEST.

I am very pleased with the progress that all my students have made over the years with numerous Black Belts being a credit to the school. We have confident, focused and persistent children with a great attitude in our schools and many of these have progressed through out children’s classes into our adult classes. Also a number of these children have developed further and are now on our Instructor Training Programme and act as great role models and mentors to all the other students.

I also have an excellent team of Instructors who are a real credit to the school in the way they teach and inspire the students and in the way they conduct themselves. They are great ambassadors for the school and give all the students something to aspire to. In particular I should mention Che McDermott, Daren Alger and Ian Gleed as part of my great team.

In our schools we really believe that if you can inspire students to have confidence in themselves that they can achieve extraordinary things and we actively encourage this in all our students and in all our classes.

If you believe you can you can!

This has never been more clearly demonstrated than by Ryan Trott, one of my students who joined me many years ago when he was only 14 years of age. Ryan was diagnosed with leukaemia almost 4 years ago now and was so ill he almost died. He has openly said that his training in the martial arts and learning over all these years of training to focus on his goals and to never give up was a major factor in him overcoming his dreadful illness. He says he put to the test these great lessons learnt from training in the martial arts and proved that they work and he firmly believes everyone should be given the opportunity to learn and benefit from these lessons that the martial arts have to offer.

I believe that there is a great deal to learn and benefit from training in the martial arts because it’s not just about kicking and punching, it’s so much more!

Why NEST?

I had been teaching for many years before I decided that I should take it more seriously and run my school in a more professional manner rather than just as a hobby. I was hesitant at first to do this because I really wanted to focus on teaching my students the very best that I could and wanted to teach people the complete Wing Chun system. I suppose I didn’t want to water down what I taught.

I began to research a number of martial arts consulting businesses to see what they had to offer in terms of advice but wasn’t really impressed with them. Their values appeared to be more about business than martial arts so I wasn’t to keen to progress with them.

Then one day I contacted NEST and spoke to Gerard Turvey and I immediately felt that this was different to my previous experiences. We spoke the same language and had the same values its all about teaching great martial arts classes and the rest will follow. I followed up this initial conversation with Gerard and he came down and met me and we discussed my schools, how I operated and my concerns that I wanted to teach the best martial arts classes that I could.

He understood where I was coming from immediately and I joined NEST from that day way back in 2001. I have never looked back and since then I have grown my schools from a part time hobby to one where I quit my job as Human Resources Director for the UK and Ireland arm of a large American Company to running a fulltime martial arts organisation which has grown and grown with the help and advice of all those at NEST.

All of my original concerns about using an outside Company to run my student billing evaporated as NEST are so professional in the way they deal with me and my students and they are far more than just a martial arts billing company. I have never looked back since I joined NEST.

I prefer to think of NEST as part of my team, I can talk to them about all aspects of my business and get excellent advice whenever I need it. All the people who work at NEST are a real credit to both Gerard and Joy, it’s easy to say but when you work with nice people who you like and can trust you get things done and achieve so much more.

NEST have an amazing skill set and resources that you can take advantage of to improve your business. They invest in themselves and therefore me. For example, the technology that they offer helps me easily track my student numbers and payments without my ever having to worry about buying expensive software packages or the time consuming data entry that this would bring were I to do this myself.

Also the advice on marketing has been invaluable in helping me grow my schools along with Gerard’s business advice on all sorts of issues that surround running any type of business.

I would recommend anyone who is teaching martial arts regardless of style to talk to NEST, from a new school owner to large already established schools because they really have so much to offer.

I have never regretted the day I joined NEST they are an important part of my business and the success of my schools.
