How will your business handle the London 2012 Olympics?

Opinions differ about whether the London 2012 Games will have a positive impact on martial arts businesses.

Many academies think that the Games will encourage new entrants into the market as a result of the increased visibility of Taekwondo and Judo on television.

However, many businesses are concerned about the practical disruption surrounding Olympic venues, as well as the advertising lock-down that comes into force 5 weeks before The Games start and remains in place until 10 days after the closing ceremony.

Whatever your view, it’s always best to plan for a potential adverse impact on your business and NEST has a range of tools and guidance to help academies remain agile and ‘expect the unexpected.’

Are you aware of the marketing restrictions surrounding the Games?
There are a number of new advertising restrictions that affect all sports organisations across the UK, not just those near designated Olympic venues. If you’re not familiar with the new rules, you need to make sure that you are clear about what your organisation can and can’t do, this summer.

A NEST video seminar is now available for members to view online in the NEST Marketing Toolkit and this presentation tells you everything you need to know about the advertising restrictions and how they are likely to affect you.

There are restrictions which prohibit any sports organisation from making direct or indirect association with London 2012 and there are areas around specific Olympic venues where no advertising is permitted at all.

Unlike other advertising rules, failure to adhere to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Act 2006 carries a potential fine of up to £20,000 for a breach and a risk of a criminal conviction. Given this, it’s worth sparing a few minutes to get up-to-speed.
